I am a Senior Lecturer at the University of Canterbury whose work connects education, leadership, research, policy, and community engagement. Throughout my career, I have been driven by a simple belief: meaningful change happens when people, communities, and organisations work together toward shared goals.
My professional journey has taken me across secondary education, educational leadership, government, research, and academia. Before joining the University of Canterbury full-time, I spent several years with the Ministry of Education, working alongside schools, kaupapa Māori organisations, local government, industry groups, community organisations, and government agencies to strengthen pathways for learners and improve educational outcomes across Canterbury and Aotearoa New Zealand.
My research explores educational leadership, equity and belonging, organisational change, community partnerships, and Pacific research methodologies. I am particularly interested in the ways research, policy, and practice can come together to create positive and lasting impact for learners, communities, and organisations.
I come from a diverse family background and am proud of my Pacific heritage, with whakapapa connections to the Cook Islands and Tahiti. These connections continue to shape my understanding of identity, leadership, relationships, and belonging, both personally and professionally.
Outside of my professional roles, I am a husband and father of five. Together with my wife Chelsea, whose work spans communications, fundraising, and governance, we are raising a growing family whose members are each navigating their own educational journeys and stages of life. Parenthood has given me a deep appreciation for the importance of learning, wellbeing, connection, and the systems that help people flourish throughout their lives.
Whether I am working with students, educators, community leaders, policymakers, boards, or organisations, I seek to bring together diverse perspectives, build meaningful relationships, and contribute to positive and sustainable change.
